Beach Boys entdecken seltene Studio- und Live-Tracks

Die Beach Boys haben mit ihren beiden neuen Retrospektivsets 1967 – Sunshine Tomorrow 2: The Studio Sessions und Live Sunshine – 1967 weiteres Archivmaterial ausgegraben, darunter Dutzende bisher unveröffentlichter Songs. Die digitalen Audiosammlungen, die jetzt zum Kauf oder Stream erhältlich sind, folgen die im Juni erschienene Doppel-LP 1967 – Sunshine Tomorrow.

Alle drei Veröffentlichungen dokumentieren die entscheidende Post-Pet-Sounds-Periode der Gruppe – einschließlich Sessions für Smiley Smile und Wild Honey, die beiden Alben von 1967, die sie aufnahmen, nachdem sie die bekanntermaßen ambitionierte SMiLE-LP zurückgestellt hatten. 1967 – Sunshine Tomorrow 2: The Studio Sessions umfasst 29 Studio-Session-Aufnahmen und Live Sunshine – 1967 enthält 109 Live-Aufnahmen, von denen die meisten bisher unveröffentlicht sind.

Zu den Highlights des Studio Sessions-Sets gehören eine A-cappella-Version von „Heroes and Villains“, das bisher unveröffentlichte „Tune L“ und das Outtake „Good News“. Das Live-Set umfasst Aufnahmen aus Hawaii, Detroit, Washington DC; White Plains, New York; Pittsburgh und Boston.

Die Beach Boys überwachten den kreativen Prozess für alle drei Kollektionen, die Mark Linett und Alan Boyd gemeinsam produzierten. 1967 – Sunshine Tomorrow enthielt Linett und Boyds allerersten Stereomix von Wild Honey; das bisher unveröffentlichte „Live“-Album Lei'd in Hawaii, Studioaufnahmen von den Wild Honey- und Smiley Smile-Sessions und Konzertaufnahmen aus den Jahren 1967 bis 1970.
